Round 8 - Upto 750 class

Round Eight and final round of this years Championship took place at the Motorsport Arena in Oschersleben Germany. This also been the penultimate round of this years World Sidecar Championship.

Well the upto 750 championship came down to these final two races to decide who became champions of not just the upto 750 championship but the overall championship. It did not let us down with Marvin and Troy taking it easy in practice by only putting serval fast laps and stopping during practice to save his engine and Robert and Marja bringing a spare bike with them just in case of ant issues. So on to race 1 with Marvin and Troy top of the 750 qualifiers on the front row Robert and Marja only qualified on row 4. As the race got underway Robert spun it coming out of the right coming on to the back straight so dropping them down the field and as the race continued Robert and Marja fought there way back up to 5th with Marvin and Troy finishing 2 behind Kia Fisher and Wolfgang Helms so the title would not decided till race 2. It was all or bust in Race 2 and Marvin and Troy took the lead and never looked back with Keith and Allun taking second pushing Robert and Marja down to third on the road.

Special note these were Keith Walters final races of his career and what a a 50 year career he has had finishing with a third and second .

Sidecar Festival - Motorsport Arena Oschersleben

Round 8 - Over 750 class

Round Eight and final round of this years Championship took place at the Motorsport Arena in Oschersleben Germany. This also been the penultimate round of this years World Sidecar Championship.

As the over 750 championship had already been clinched by Zita and Guido at Schleiz and Seppe and Kobe claiming second, it was down to who would finish third in the championship between Ray / Yens and Andy / Michel with only 15 points separating the two teams. Race 1 Zita and Guido chain broke on the line as the race got under way with Andy / Michel beating Seppe and Kobe into the first corner and Ray settling into third the race was on but luck was not on Andy’s side and they stopped on lap 5 leaving Ray to finish second behind Seppe so getting enough points to clinch third in the championship. Race 2 It was back to normal service with Seppe and Guido battling it out for the honours and Seppe clinching it. With Andy coming in third and Ray not starting due to engine trouble. A great time was had by all.

The Sidecar Festival - Motorsport Arena Oschersleben Germany.

The final round of this years season takes place on the 5 weeks (5th 6th 0cotber) time at the Motorsport Arena in Oschersleben as part the German sidecar Festival .

There is still plenty to race for in upto 750 classes. With Zita and Guido Reichmuth taking the over 750cc second year, As for the upto 750 class it is dead level at the top between current champion Marvin Vermeulen and his new passenger Troy Klinker and Robert Schoonderbeek and his passenger Marja van den Bor in second, third place looks to be heading to Gabrielle Arends and Jan Beens. As for the Overall Championship this is between Marvin / Troy and Marja / Robert with Zita and Guido having an outside chance of catching them.

VFV Klassik GP Schleizer Dreieck

Round 7 - Upto 750 class

Round Seven of this years Championship took place on the oldest road circuit in Germany at Schleiz. With temperatures well in to the high 20’s all weekend it was very challenging for the teams as well as the bikes.

In the championship the two leading teams were level on points following Round 6 at Gedinne so it was going to make it an interesting weekend to see if one team could break the deadlock with only the final meeting at Oschersleben to come in early October.

So with Race 1 at 8am on Sunday morning it was Marvin and Troy who took the honours but Race 2 mid afternoon and the heat of the day at its highest, it was Robert and Marja who took the honours with Marvin and Troy having problems at the final chicane and pushing the bike all the way to the finish line to claim second place by the tiniest of margins over Jan and Gabrielle in third place.

So with it been still level at the top of the championship its all down to the final round of the season at Oschersleben in Germany the first weekend in October for a winner takes all showdown as the winners will be likely be crown Camathias Cup champions as well.

VFV Klassik GP Schleizer Dreieck

Round 7 - Over 750 class

Round Seven of this years Championship took place on the oldest road circuit in Germany at Schleiz. With temperatures well in to the high 20’s all weekend it was very challenging for the teams as well as the bikes.

In the championship the two leading teams were separated by 47 points following Round 6 at Gedinne, This giving Seppe and Kobe and an outside chance of catching Zita and Guido barring any mechanical issues. Race 1 the teams were separated by 7 second’s with Zita and Guido taking the honours, With this been Seppe and Kobe first visit to Schleiz it was going to be interesting if they could catch Zita and Guido in the race 2. But luck was not on their side as they got a puncture on lap 4 so ending their championship chances for 2024. As for third spot in the championship it is still between Ray Reeves and Andy / Michiel with only 15 points separating the two teams with Andy / Michiel having a DNF in the first race and beating Ray in Race 2 it is all down to the final round at Oschersleben to come in early October to finalise the top 3 in this years over 750 championship.

18th - 20th August 2023 Gedinne over 750 report

Here we are again in Gedinne one of, if not the most anticipated meeting of the year. The track assembly completed in time, the orange army gather, officials sharpen their pencils and teams travel from all over Europe to race at one of the best circuits in our Camathias Cup calendar. A full grid had arrived for the group 3 class with 27 teams in total of which 17 were competing in the over 750cc class for the Camathias Cup championship.

Practice and qualifying took place on the Friday with pole position taken by Bruno Noel and Germain Sacchettini closely followed Guido and Zita Reichmuth with Jon Perins and Ian Nickels taking third position for the race to follow on Saturday.

Saturday arrived and the racing started at 0800 with the group 3 class due out on track just before lunch time. By now the public campsite was full and the crowds were lined up all around the track, and with the weather forecast being sunshine and hot all day what else can anyone wish for?

The race was over 5 laps in the hottest part of the day, both machines and teams were feeling the extreme heat. As at many events nowadays the organisers were carrying out breath tests before each race, but with the amount of people to check the start time was creeping closer and closer and unfortunately because of this delay a number of teams missed the sighting lap and so started from the holding area. Not the best start to a race but it did mean some close action on track with teams overtaking to gain lost grid positions. The race was won by Marvin Vermeulen and Jouk Hahn but they are not entered in this class for the Camathias Cup, and so the winner for our championship goes to Jon and Ian, with Bruno and Germain taking second position and Guido and Zita taking the final podium place.

Saturday night came and the temperature of the day could still be felt late into the evening as the live music started to play and both machines and teams hoped that Sunday would not be as hot.

14th - 16th July 2023 Chimay over 750 report

Firstly I would like to send our condolences to all the family and friends who are affected by the tragic events of Sunday. Our hearts and thoughts go out to you all at this very sad time. Our sport can be a very rewarding one, but it can also be so cruel within a heartbeat.

After a very enjoyable weekend in Schleiz the Camathias Cup circus made their way to Chimay for the next round of our championship. All race teams from Schliez stayed over in Europe ready to travel to Chimay for the next chapter in the 10th Anniversary year of our championship. Some of the teams were lucky enough to spend a few days on a campsite enjoying the summer sunshine while others had to find ways of repairing their engines after a hard weekend in Germany.

Most teams arrived during Wednesday or Thursday to a paddock already filling up fast, but the main difference between the German and Belgium weekends for the Camathias teams was the weather temperature. Thank goodness it was cooler in Chimay!! The paddock and public camping areas were buzzing with excitement, as Chimay is not only a race weekend but also a festival for classic bike racing.

Thursday started with scrutineering with a track debrief to follow, and all the teams were ready for a full programme of racing starting on Friday with an afternoon practice session. The Chimay organisers had planned 2 practices, one for the over 750cc class and one for the under 750cc class as each grid was full with up to 30 teams competing.

Saturday the organisers again planned 2 qualifying sessions for each class. Pole was taken by Marvin Vermeulen and Jouk Hahn who rode Kobus sidecar as guest riders, with Brono Noel and Germain Sacchettini with third position taken by Tony Thirkell and William Morallee.

Sunday the race was planned for a 0930 start and was won by Marvin and Jouk but on a Camathias view the points winner was Tony and William, second place was taken by Guido and Zita Reichmuth with Alister and Patti Lewis taking third position.

The meeting was then cancelled later on that day due to 2 tragic incidents during 2 separate solo races. The Camathias Cup Committee agreed not to continue the usual end of the weekend presentations in respect to the family and friends who are affected by this weekends tragic events.

Round 6 of the Camathias Cup Championship now moves on to Chadwell Park in England as part of the International Sidecar Revival.

Over 750 cc Championship standings after 5 rounds are

  1. Guido and Zita Reichmuth 142 Points

  2. Ray Reeves and Manon Viss 110 Points

  3. Steve Cox and Diana Bouman 86 Points

Sunday the race was planned for a 0930 start and was won by Marvin and Jouk, second place was Robert and Nicolai with Keith Walters and Yens Van den Bor coming in third position.

VFV Klassik GP 7th - 9th July 2023 Schleizer Dreiek - over 750 report

After a very enjoyable weekend in Scotland at the Bob MacInyre meeting the Camathias Cup Championship moved on to round 4 in Schliez in Germany, a track where the Camathias Cup teams had not raced before. All the teams entered had to travel great distances to attend the meeting, but with the promise of a great track and weekend of racing all 20 teams were keen to experience what the German organisers had planned for us.

Most teams arrived during Thursday at all times of the day and night, to a paddock which filled up very quickly of solos, sidecars and cars. Within the sidecar category was not only the Camathias Cup competitors but also a German Club, and so the sidecar racing sport was on full view to a packed crowd who came to witness a great weekend of racing planned in the sun.

Friday started with scrutineering with a track debrief to follow, and by the middle of the day the temperature had climbed to mid 30 degrees, and so with our practice session due at 1830 we were all hoping the temperature would start to cool down. This was not the case!!! The practice session came and we had 20 minutes of time to learn the circuit in very hot conditions, but it was all worth it as the track did not disappoint with the climbs up hills, fast down hill section through the trees and some chicanes thrown in for good measure. Every team that entered the paddock from this first practice session had a smile on their faces.

Saturday started in the same vein with glorious sunshine, although to be fair it was just a little too hot. The qualifying session of the day saw Guido and Zita Reichmuth taking pole position, with Tim Reeves and Manon Vissenberg taking second position with Kobus Bouman and Nicolai Klinker taking third position. Andy Nourish and Michel Leeflang suffered problems with engine number 2 in their “Double Trouble” outfit. Along evening awaits Andy and Michel taking out 2 engines to fit the spare ready to do battle again on Sunday. During the evening the atmosphere was fantastic with all teams enjoying the hospitality laid on by the organisers to finish off a perfect day.

Sunday came with the first race for the Camathias Cup on track at 0830, which was a relief from the very hot weather from the previous day. Guido and Zita won the first race of the day, with Ray and Manon coming in second position with Hendrik and Palmira taking the final podium position. The final race of the weekend was due out straight after lunch, in the blistering heat of the day. By now all the teams had enough laps under their belts to now really enjoy the final race of the weekend, with most teams taking double digit numbers off their first track times from the start of the weekend. Race 2 was just as exciting with Guido and Zita taking a second win, Ray and Manon finishing second with Hendrik and Palmira taking the final podium spot. Unfortunately Andy and Michel suffered oil pressure issues after all their hard work replacing “Double Trouble” during the previous evening and so overall only completing a few laps for the weekend. .

After the racing was completed for the weekend the organisers presented trophies for the top 3 in each class, with the normal Camathias Cup presentation following on. Although the weekend was very hot the track did not disappoint and one where many teams commented how they would all love to visit again sometime in the future.

Round 5 of the Camathias Cup Championship now moves on to Chimay in Belgium.

Over 750 cc Championship standings after 4 rounds are

  1. Guido and Zita Reichmuth 122 Points

  2. Ray Reeves and Manon Viss 94 Points

  3. Steve Cox and Diana Bouman 76 Points

The Bob McIntyre Memorial Classic Races 24th 25th June 2023 - Over 750 cc report

The 3rd round of the Camathias Cup Championship moved to Scotland for the Bob McIntyre Classic race weekend. Not only is this year the 10th Anniversary of the Camathias Cup Championship but it is also the 40th Anniversary to celebrate the Bob McIntyre Memorial Classic race weekend.

The majority of the paddock arrived during Friday afternoon to a well organised pit with the friendly faces of the Scottish Classic Racing Motorcycle Club (SCRMC) who always without fail make us all feel very welcome from the Camathias Cup Club. The SCRMC had not only organised stunning weather conditions Friday evening and all day Saturday, but also arranged the most track time we can enjoy thundering around the 1.56 mile circuit. The circuit also enjoys a beautiful back drop of rolling hills, fields and woods, and with the weather being glorious we could not of wished for a better start to the weekends racing.

Saturday morning started with a free practice and qualifying sessions before lunch time. Pole position for the weekend was set by Andy Nourish and Michiel Leeflang with Jon Perkins and Ian Nickells taking 2nd position with Tony Thirkell and William Moralee coming in 3rd. There were 2 races planned on Saturday with the first race of the day being the Camathias Cup Championship event. After some very close racing and positions being swopped on every lap Jon and Ian took first place with Andy and Michiel coming in 2nd postion with Tony and William taking the final podium place. Alistair and Patti finished 4th recovering from a coming together with Robert and Marja in the free practice earlier in the day. At the end of the day the SCRMC organised a presentation evening for the Saturdays results, with the presentation trophies being given out by Bob McIntyre’s god son Ian Lawton.

Sunday was then upon us with the start of the day being dry and sunny, but the forecast by 4pm was not looking as promising with heavy rain, thunder and lightening on the way. True to form the SCRMC worked extremely hard to ensure all races were completed before the rainy conditions arrived, a BIG thank you to all those involved. The SCRMC had arranged 2 club races on Sunday along with a dedicated Camathias Cup race, and so lots of laps enjoyed by all. The second Camathias Cup race of the weekend was won by Tony and William with Alistair and Patti taking 2nd position with Ray Reeves and Manon Vissenberg taking the final podium position. Although Jon and Ian, along with Andy and Michiel were the weekends fastest teams to keep an eye on, they both experienced some mechanical issues which unfortunately resulted in a DNF for both teams for race two. On the positive side it was good to see the new team pairing of Ray and Manon finishing a good top 3 place in the final Camathias Cup race of the weekend.

We all had a fantastic weekend, enjoyed the welcome from all those involved with the SCRMC, stunning weather conditions and most of all many fast and exciting laps completed at East Fortune. We hope to see you all again next year. The Camathias Cup Championship will now all travel to Schleiz in Germany for the first time for our teams, with the following weekend visiting Chimay in Belguim for the 5th round of our championship.

The Bob McIntyre Memorial Classic Races 24th 25th June 2023 - upto 750 cc report

Saturday morning started with a free practice but it was also not the best start to the weekend for Robert and Marja who had travelled many miles from The Netherlands to be with us all this weekend. Going into Railway Bend after a very long fast straight, Robert and Marja had a coming together with Alistair and Patti Lewis, which resulted in Robert and Marja upside down and with both damage to their outfit and themselves this meant their race weekend was over. Alistair and Patti’s outfit had damage which was repairable once back in the pits and so they could continue for the rest of the weekend. The good news was both teams were a little shaken and a few bruises but they will be out in full force again later on in the season. Qualifying came just before lunch with Keith Walters and Alun Thomas taking pole position for the weekend with Juan Christian and Julie Hardisty coming in 2nd position with Mark Nolan and Graeme Wigglesworth taking 3rd spot.

Saturday saw all teams racing in 2 races, the first race of the day being the Camathias Cup race, and the final race of the day was the SCRMC club race. The Camathias Cup race was won by Keith and Alun, 2nd place came Juan and Julie with 3rd place being taken by Mark and Graeme.

The SCRMC had arranged 2 club races on Sunday along with a dedicated Camathias Cup race, and so lots of laps enjoyed by all. The second Camathias Cup race of the weekend was again won by Keith and Alun, Juan and Julie picking up second position with Mark and Graeme completing the podium places.

We all had a fantastic weekend, enjoyed the welcome from all those involved with the SCRMC, stunning weather conditions and most of all many fast and exciting laps completed at East Fortune. We hope to see you all again next year. TT Circuit Assen 19th/21st May 2023 - Over 750cc report

The second round of the Camathias Cup championship travels to the iconic TT circuit of Assen. In the 10th anniversary year of the championship every team was looking forward to visiting the fast flowing circuit in the Netherlands. Teams started to arrive on the Thursday or Friday signing on with the Ducati Club and in return collecting a t-shirt in memory of a fantastic weekend to come. Teams started to fill the paddock ready for the technical inspection on Friday and free practice to follow later in the day.

Saturday morning arrived with the anticipation of a another great day of qualifying and race 1 scheduled for later in the day, for round 2 of the Camathias Cup Championship. The day did not disappoint both with the excellent Ducati Club organisation, fantastic sunshine and the chance to do a few more laps around this iconic circuit. During the qualifying session the pole position was taken by Jon Perkins and Ian (The Salmon) Nickels, second fastest was the weekends guest team of Alain De Muynck and Kenny Roegiers with the third fastest husband and wife team Guido and Zita Reicmuth. The scene was set for the race scheduled later on in the day and the teams could not wish for a better day with the weather.

Race 1 was scheduled for 1730 and true to form the Ducati Club was running on time and the teams assembled in the holding area ready for the warm up lap, pulling up onto the grid and waiting for the lights to go out for the 7 lap race. Overall 23 teams lined up on the grid traveling from across Europe waiting for the lights to go out. Lights out and all teams thundered down to the first right hand corner, and with the circuit being lovely and wide every team jostled for position on the opening lap. Unfortunately the husband and wife team of Alistair and Patti Lewis experienced mechanical issues and so a DNF for the Scottish team for race 1. The top 3 finishing teams for race 1 were Jon and Ian, second place was taken by Alain and Kenny, with third place taken by Guido and Zita.

Saturday night came and the Ducati Club had organised a DJ, food and a bar for all competitors to enjoy.

Sunday morning came and again the weather was wonderful with the sun out and the slight wind on the back straight yesterday had reduced, and once again all the teams were ready for race 2 scheduled for 1125 in the morning. The Ducati Club again running to the scheduled allowed the teams to line up on time for the start of race 2. With the time on Sunday being late morning this allowed teams who had travelled across Europe or a ferry to catch that night, time to pack up and make their way home in good time. Back to race 2 and all 21teams lined up on the grid as per their qualifying times from Saturday to once again to wait for lights out and the race down to the first right hand corner. Race 2 saw battles all the way down the field with a special mention to Ray Reeves and new passenger Manon Vissenberg who finished 4th, but with a big smile on both faces, they have now joined the Camathias Cup Championship for the rest of the year with a final comment of “This is great we have had a great weekend, see you all in Scotland”. Race 2 again was won by Jon and Ian (the salmon), with second place taken by Alain and Kenny, with third place once again taken by Guido and Zita. Unfortunately in race 2 Alistair and Patti continued to experience technical issues which prevented them lining up on the grid, along with Kobus and Nicolai and Hendrik and Palmira. One of this weekends organising teams Richard and Kim although started the race unfortunately they did not see the finish flag and had to retire.

In the championship standings for the over 750cc class sees Guido and Zita leading the way after 2 rounds going into the 3rd round at the Bob MacIntyre meeting at East Fortune Scotland in June. Second place in the championship standings is Jon and Ian (The Salmon).

The weekend presentation was held on the Sunday afternoon were once again everyone received their weekend finishers token for their trophy. Roll on to round 3 in Scotland.

The scene was set for the race scheduled later on in the day and the teams could not wish for a better day with the weather.

Overall 23 teams lined up on the grid traveling from across Europe waiting for the lights to go out. Lights out and all teams thundered down to the first right hand corner, and with the circuit being lovely and wide every team jostled for position on the opening lap. Unfortantly Mathijs Kersten and Wouter Zwieres along with new Camathias club members Graham Wiggleworth and Mark Nolan experienced mechanical issues and so a DNF for both teams. Race 1 saw the same top 3 finishing as they qualified with a race win for Marvin and Jouk, second place taken by Seppe and Jeffrey with third place taken by Robert and Marja.

Race 2 saw battles all the way down the field with Mathijs and Wouter swopping postions with Juan and Julie on every lap, with Mathijs and Wouter coming over the line in the lead in a mid field battle that lasted the full 7 laps. Race 2 again was won by Marvin and Jouk, with second place taken by Seppe and Jeffrey with third place going to Robert and Marja.

In the championship standings the 2 race wins from this weekend saw Marvin and Jouk secure the second place on the leader board for the under 750cc class but it is Robert and Marja who currently lead this class after 2 rounds and going into the next round at the Bob MacIntyre meeting at East Fortune Scotland in June.

The weekend presentation was held on the Sunday afternoon were once again everyone received their weekend finishers token for their trophy. It was also a chance to sing (I use the word “sing” loosely here!!) happy 54th birthday to Jan Beens, who had a home made cake presented to him, and everyone enjoyed a slice with a smile on their faces in the wonderful Dutch sunshine. Roll on to round 3 in Scotland.

Hengelo GDR 6th/7th May 2023 - upto 750 report

After a long winter break it was time to start the Camathias Cup 2023 racing season at Hengelo. The teams started to arrive on the Friday looking forward to a fantastic organised weekend, saying hello to old and new faces with the hope of a great start to the 10th anniversary year to our Camathias Cup championship.

Its fair to say that the opening round did not disappoint!! In the under 750cc class there was a good turn out of 13 teams ;who had travelled from as far and wide as Poland, The Netherlands, France, Belgium and the UK. Practice and qualifying sessions were ran on the Saturday, which was led by Marvin Vermeulen and Jouk Hahn followed by Robert Schoonderbeek and Marja van den Bor with Keith Walters and Alun Thomas taking the 3rd fastest spot. During race 1 Marvin and Jouk took an excellent first win of the season followed by Robert and Marja in second position and the third place team home was Jan Beens and Gabrielle Arends. Unfortunately for Keith and Alun due to an engine issue which forced a early retirement.

Race 2 followed on Sunday with the hope of good weather and again the day was not a disappointment, with blue skies and warm sunshine. During the weekend the race organisation, Hamov was fantastic and the second race started on schedule just after lunch. Marvin and Jouk led the way once more but an unfortunate coming together at the Boschbocht hairpin on lap 2 with Tony Thirkell and Wiliam Moralee meant that both teams had to retire. This opened up the race to Robert and Marj to take their first win of the season with Noel Seppe and Jeffrey Vromant coming in second position with a solid third place again for Jan and Gabrielle.

Hengelo GDR 6th/7th May 2023 - over 750 report

The over 750cc class also had an excellent representation from all over Europe with 15 teams travelling from Switzerland, France, The Netherlands, Poland and the UK to race in Hengelo starting the 10th anniversary year to our Camathias Cup championship in style.

Its fair to say yet again this class for the opening round did not disappoint!! Practice and qualifying sessions held on Saturday was led by Andy Nourish and Michel Leeflang, followed by Kobus Bouman and Nicolai Klinker and finishing the top 3 came Guido and Zita Reichmuth the Swiss pairing. Race 1 was again under blue skies and the top 3 teams on the podium were led by Brono Noel and Germain Sacchettini taking their first win of the season followed by Kobus and Nicolai with Giudo and Zita taking the final podium position. The early pace setter of Andy and Michel unfortunately had to retire due to clutch issues.

Race 2 followed on Sunday with the hope of yet another great race under the blue skies of Hengelo, and true to form the race did not disappoint with some great close racing in this very exciting class. The final podium for the over 750cc class in race 2 saw Andy and Michel take their first race win of the season closely followed by Bruno and Germain with Giudo and Zita taking the final and second 3rd place podium position of the weekend.
